But wait, what exactly is a Donabe?
A Donabe (土鍋) is the Japanese version of an earthenware pot, the heart of warm and convivial meals in Japan. It’s used to prepare nabe, a type of simmered hot pot where everyone takes part by adding ingredients little by little, directly at the table.
Thanks to its slow cooking process, the Donabe enhances flavors, bringing out the natural sweetness of vegetables, the aroma of mushrooms, and—most importantly—that deep umami, the fifth taste that makes every bite unforgettable.
